Wojciech Machała

Doctor of Law, assistant professor at the Chair of Intellectual Property and Intangible Property Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw (since 2000). Attorney-at-law in Warsaw (since 2001).

In his research and attorney practice, he focuses on intellectual property law and the legal conditions of technological progress. His current and former clients include, among others, a press publishing house, a leading provider of databases on the automotive market, a renowned industrial design company, a leading manufacturer of computer games, a publisher of textbooks and educational materials.

Experience

He combines extensive scientific experience with the practice of law and journalistic and social activity.

He serves as a judge of the Disciplinary Court of the Warsaw Bar Association (5th term), and as Vice President of the Court during the current term. He is also a member of the trainee training committee at ORA Warsaw.

He conducts training classes with legal trainees in civil law, intellectual property law and advocacy ethics. He is the author of the draft reform of the trainee training programme (with particular emphasis on civil law classes). He also consults on current changes to the training programme implemented by ORA in Warsaw and is the author of training materials and examination case studies.

In addition, he sits on the Programme Council of the “Law of New Technologies” magazine and is a member of the editorial board of the “Medical Law Review” magazine.

Knowledge sharing

Author of two monographs (“Permitted private use in Polish copyright law”, Warsaw 2003 and “Work. Object of Copyright”, Warsaw 2012), co-author of the monograph “Brzechwa. Poeta w adwokackiej todze”, Warsaw 2022 and several dozen of scientific articles concerning private law issues. Co-author and scientific co-editor of the commentary to the Copyright and Related Rights Act (W. Machała, R. M. Sarbiński [ed.] “Copyright and Related Rights. Commentary”, Warsaw 2019), co-author of the commentary to the Industrial Property Law Act (J. Sieńczyło-Chlabicz [ed.] “Industrial Property Law”, Warsaw 2020).
