Expertise
Protecting our clients' reputations is part of our firm's DNA. SKP lawyers advise at least dozens of them every year on how to respond and protect their reputation, good name and brand value. Our team has won many high-profile cases and precedent-setting judgments. We analyse the risks associated with the infringement of personal rights in artistic, journalistic or marketing activity. We also have experience in criminal defamation cases and press law.
We are familiar with precedent-setting, atypical cases, as well as cases bordering on the protection of personal rights, e.g. concerning persistent harassment (stalking) or compensation for repressions from the communist era.

Experience
Protecting the reputation of a leading energy sector company
Our experience also includes cases concerning the limits of acceptable journalistic criticism and freedom of speech. Our team’s analysis has shown that one-sided, unsubstantiated information cannot be regarded as falling within the bounds of permissible criticism if its content violates the personal interests of others, in particular their good name.
Comprehensive public image protection services for a pharmaceutical company
We advised an international pharmaceutical company on issues connected with protecting its image and reputation on the Polish market. We supported the company during a media crisis, analysed media publications and applied to the regional and national media for rectifications, press answers and apologies. In justified cases, we also applied for security.
Bank’s media crisis
We supported one of the banks in managing a media crisis. The crisis situation was triggered by the disclosure of materials describing alleged illegal activities of the bank’s employees towards customers.
Infringement of personal rights in book publications
We represented a well-known journalist in a court case against the publisher of a book describing the family life of media celebrities during the communist era. The publication violated the journalist’s good name and presented his biography in a false light. The court case is currently pending. As security for the claim, we obtained the removal of the client’s likeness from the cover of the book.
Project leaders
We act on behalf of individuals and entities whose personal rights have been violated - including institutions, corporations and social organisations, politicians, journalists, artists, businessmen and athletes. We also help to effectively defend against claims - we advise on potential disputes both at the pre-litigation stage and in court.
